The site of Chapel Street Garages was known as Hollis (or Hollis’s) Yard as, in the early 20th century, it was used by Mr Hollis of Stow-on-the-Wold who produced agricultural implements, water troughs and drain covers, some of which are still in use locally. The area can be identified in this photograph of 1990’s.

After use by Mr Hollis, the area was used as a stockyard by Manor Farm.

The area was then used as garaging ….
