Laurence Greenhill

25 Oct 1931 - 23 May 2015

Laurence loved living in Maugersbury.  It was his lifetime wish to live in the Cotswolds and he found everything that he ever wanted on his arrival in the village in 1999.  He was well known for his enjoyment of Maugersbury parties and his involvement in the community.  A man of robust opinions - sometimes forcefully expressed to his friends in the village -  he remained a welcoming and friendly figure to all who met him. Testament to that was the number of villagers who attended his funeral in June.

Laurence's roots were far from Gloucestershire and he worked for the majority of his life in the City becoming a Freeman; an honour of which he was immensely proud. He was a much loved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who revelled in the exploits of his family. His capacity to provide guidance without substituting his views for the judgment of the friend or family member was remarkable.

During his later years he was very restricted by his physical condition but this in no way dimmed his bright intellect and keen interest in world and village affairs, which he pursued avidly, being unafraid to say when he thought something was wrong.

He was very much at the centre of the Greenhill family and he is very much missed, particularly by Mary, who was his constant companion during their 62 year marriage.
