The Hemming family

Written by Julie Farrell (nee Hemming)

"My father Reginald Arthur Hemming was born in one of the cottages at Half Moon House on the 14th May 1924 along with his twin brother Francis.  They are both listed in your baptism register listings on the 29th June 1924.  Also listed are their two sisters,  Doris May on the 6th October 1915, and Joyce Beatrice on the 15th September 1929.

There were also two other brothers Charles and Norman.

My great grandfather Charles Hemming married to Isabella and grandfather Thomas Hemming married to Edith also lived in Maugersbury.  They were both Carters by trade.  Thomas worked at Sycamore Farm, but I also have a photo of him with a Shire horse and cart at Hyde Mill farm in 1936.

The other photographs are of Thomas’ wife Edith (nee Webb) outside the Half Moon House in Maugersbury and my Aunty Joyce (Hemming) also outside the Half Moon House, both photographs taken in about 1932.

Thomas and his family moved from Maugersbury to Stow-on-the Wold in 1936 living later that year in Oddfellows Terrace, which is where they lived until they died.

I was brought up in Stow-on the-Wold along with my brother, who still lives there today. My father has now died."
