Park Farm

In 1947 the Maugersbury Estate timber yard with barn and outbuildings was sold to John Fisher. The main barn was converted into a dwelling in 1949 and became the farmstead serving 96 acres of land purchased from the Maugersbury Manor Estate in 1946. The farm holding was named Park Farm. (The name Park Farm no longer applied to Manor Farm and neither was it appropriate for any part of the Oxleaze House. John Fisher had, in fact bought part of the parkland formerly owned by the Maugersbury Estate so the Park Farm name was carried forward.)

John Fisher ran a mixed farm, the main enterprise being milk production. In 1968 his son, Philip, took over the tenancy during which time he ran an intensive beef enterprise, a lorry business and a seed-cleaning business. Two building plots were sold in 1973 to developer Richard Hill, the houses now known as Rowan Gate and Bumbles End.

During 1982 John and Ruth’s daughter, Tiana, and her husband, John Ricketts, took over the tenancy and continued with sheep farming. During the period between 1982 and 1996 four barns at Park Farm were converted to holiday accommodation, the properties being known as Daisy Bank, Oxbow Cottage, Swingletree and Stonewell Cottage, together with the wing of the farmhouse known as Fishers Cottage, and traded as Park Farm Holiday Cottages. John and Tiana moved to a new house converted from a workshop/store in 2020 named The Cider House.
